lyrics

when she was in her teens
she dreamed of being a motion picture queen
like betty grable, maybe marilyn monroe

she'd spend her evenings in virginia
looking up at all the stars using Father's telescope
that he built before he died

and retiring to the living room and bidding dad goodnight
that little box tucked in the corner
showed her more stars than the sky

but when she moved to california
she didn't have a clue
that there were others too
all with one dream
a dream that won't come true

he was the son of someone's son
whose every whim would come undone
by all the things to which he tried not to succumb

living the high life in the south, standing spread by word of mouth
exquisite tastes in every vice
he never thought before he bought

and retiring to his living room while drawing all his blinds
he took a sip from daddy's bottle
before doing another line

but when he moved to California
he didn't have a clue
that there were others too
all with one dream, a dream that won't come true

she charged a thousand bucks a night
she had to pay for all those transatlantic flights
to please the powerful and rich

he found her number in a book
she told him 'touch but never look'
he wasn't used to playing quite by all the rules

and retiring to the hotel room with whiskey in their veins
she didn't know that this is where she soon
would meet her grisly end

and when they moved to california
they didn't have a clue
that there were others too
all with one dream
a dream that won't come true
